Import Licence for Radioactive Substances and Irradiating Apparatus: General Information

Prerequisite of Import Licence Issuance

Import Licence for Radioactive Substance and Irradiating Apparatus [TRA-RSIA(2014)] (“Import Licence”) is issued to holders of Radioactive Substances Licence, Irradiating Apparatus Licence or letter of Exemption issued by the Radiation Board.

Licence Validity

Import Licence is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.


Conditions of Issue and Eligibility

Licence applicants should read carefully the conditions of issue set out on the Import Licence before completing the form and ensure that these conditions are fully complied with.

Import Licence for Radioactive Substance and Irradiating Apparatus [TRA-RSIA(2014)] (“Import Licence”) is issued to holders of Radioactive Substances Licence, Irradiating Apparatus Licence or letter of Exemption issued by the Radiation Board.


Fees

Applications for Import Licence covering radioactive substances and irradiating apparatus are free of charge.

Processing Time and Performance Pledge

Under normal circumstances, licence applications are ready for collection one clear working day after the day of submission*.

In any situation, the applicant should apply for an import licence before the goods arrive in Hong Kong. The scheduled arrival or departure date of the goods should be at least one clear working day after the day of submission of the import licence application.

Import and Export of IAEA Category 1 and Category 2 sources

With effective from January 2007, import and export of radioactive materials under Category 1 and Category 2 of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) categorization system should also conform to the IAEA “Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources” as well as “Guidance on the Import and Export of Radioactive Sources”.
